Cashman comments about Stanton may cost the Yankees the signing of a superstar free agent

Yankees GM Brian Cashman recently made some comments about former MVP slugger Giancarlo Stanton that didn't sit well with the player's agent, Joel Wolfe, who told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal that 'is a good reminder to all free agents' who want to sign in The Bronx.

Moreover, if the Yankees were planning on making a move for some star free agents this MLB offseason, they might find it a little bit harder to sign Japanese stud Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was recently posted by his NPB team, Orix Buffaloes, looking for a contract in the Major Leagues.

Cashman comments may cost them Yamamoto

According to sources, Giancarlo Stanton's agent also represents Yamamoto, with Wolfe's having a direct influence on the Japanese pitcher's decision, with Cashman's comments potentially hurting whether they will sign the player or not, with the Yankees being one of many teams interested in Yamamoto.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is one of the top free agents in MLB this season alongside fellow countrymen Shohei Ohtani. It is expected that the 25-year-old pitcher will sign a contract worth around $200 million, with cross-town rivals Mets seen as the top landing spot for the Japanese star.

The best Japanese player not-named Ohtani?

Yamamoto has been arguably the best player in the Nippon Professional Baseball since 2020, winning two Pacific League MVPs, three Eiji Sawamura awards (NPB equivalent to the Cy Young award), three pitching Triple Crowns, and 5 All-Stars.

He also won a Japan Series in 2022, the Olympic Gold Medal in Tokyo 2020, and the 2023 World Baseball Classic with Japan.
